Standing Up to Employee Mandates
Today Walmart announced they are requiring the COVID-19 Vaccine for their headquarters employees. Earlier this month, I attended a meeting in Oklahoma where 1000 people (and some liberty-minded legislators) gathered to discuss how to fight against healthcare employee mandates. Many private healthcare companies are now requiring it for employment, and these healthcare workers don’t want it, but are facing being fired if they don’t get it. Now it is coming to Walmart, what company is next? And what can we do?
1. People should be free to make their own medical choices. If you are facing this at your place of employment, stand for freedom and don’t back down. It takes courage, but every person standing encourages the next one. (For more details on your options, listen to our recent podcast episode here).
2. Republican leadership is unfortunately landing on the side of allowing corporations to trample individual rights. I think our founding fathers would disagree – “to secure these rights [life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness], Governments are instituted among Men.” Step up, Republicans, and stop bowing to corporate sponsors.
3. EVERYONE needs to stand, boldly, now. I’m a small business owner and I’m NOT in healthcare. But I came, to lend my voice. Because they will come for all of us. But they cannot win if we will stand, boldly, together. Niemoller (a church leader who stood against the Nazi’s) said:
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
“Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
“Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
“Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
Liberty MUST be defended. If not us, who? If not now, when?
