Defeat the PRO ACT!
Imagine your boss tells you, “It’s the law! If you want to keep your job, you HAVE to donate $400 a year to my favorite non-profit. No questions asked.” Sounds crazy, right? Well, it’s not. The PRO Act would force millions of workers to do just that. But instead of mandating donations to non-profits, the PRO Act demands people pay union membership fees – or else you lose your job.
In the 27 states that have Right to Work legislation, employees can choose whether or not to join a Union. In these states, union membership cannot be a condition of employment. This empowers employees to choose payment options that best suit them.
The PRO Act would erase Right to Work, forcing millions of employees to pay Union fees, even if they don’t want to. What if a union supports causes or candidates that employees don’t believe in? It doesn’t matter. The PRO Act makes no exceptions. The average Union Fee is $400 a year! That’s a lot of money to be forced to pay!
What’s wrong with The PRO Act?
– The PRO Act would cancel Right to Work legislation across the country
– The PRO Act would make it illegal to be an independent contractor
On top of this, the PRO Act would make it illegal to work as an independent contractor. This means gig-economy work would be illegal. Millions of realtors, photographers, audio engineers, graphic designers, home-improvement professionals, interior designers, and plenty more would lose their jobs. Skeptical? Check out this article on California’s AB-5, which cancelled independent contractor status in their state. The fallout was disastrous. These stories are heartbreaking.
1099 status allows people to work flexibly, be their own boss, and be in charge of their own schedule. 77% of independent contractors love being their own boss. 51% of independent contractors say they never want to work another way. The PRO Act would destroy the livelihoods of this small but essential sector of our economy.
How can we stop this from happening? Contact your legislators using the script in bio and sign the petition (link in bio) and urge Congress to vote AGAINST the PRO Act! #VoteNoPro!
