PRAYER FOR THE UPCOMING ELECTION
“I have lived a long time and am convinced that God governs in the affairs of men. If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? I move that prayer imploring the assistance of Heaven be held every morning…” Ben Franklin
It’s been encouraging to see Christians across this country joining together in prayer and even fasting leading up to the election, many throughout the day on Tuesday. The issues and candidates on the ballot in 2020 that are diametrically opposed to each other. While some align with Christian values of freedom, responsibility, and Biblical morality, others are for perversion, riot and killing, anger and revenge, and murder. As Christians, let’s ask God to be merciful and give us Godly leaders once again.
This quote from Ben Franklin reminds us that the weight of our election is not unlike many moments our founders faced as they built a nation under God, unlike the world had ever seen before. And Franklin’s words should stir us, to “implor[e] the assistance of Heaven” in our time as well.
